He opens his mouth and noise comes out.

When I was 10, my brother and I created our own radio station. It wasn't really a radio station, it was the two of us talking into a microcassette recorder. We called it KRUD Radio. When you're 10, that name is hysterical. Try to imagine 9 and 10 year olds acting like talk radio hosts. You know that had to be some high brow stuff.

Before I knew it, I became the official voice of neighborhood Wiffle Ball and street hockey games. Did you know that a little bit of imagination combined with tuning a weather radio to an empty frequency would provide static that almost sounded like a stadium full of fans?

The next step as a kid was to play Top 40 DJ with a neighbor. There's nothing more awkward than a couple of kids - whose voices may or may not have been changing at the time - trying to act like big shot Top 40 DJs into a tape recorder.

Eventually, I made it to the world of broadcast radio. My experience spans CHR, Hot AC, and Alternative formats. One of my personal broadcast highlights - aside from illegally cranking up the broadcasting power at a college radio station to extend the station's reach - was unknowingly pumping a few moments of a personal phone call with an ex-girlfriend out over the air before a thoughtful receptionist hustled to the studio with a head's up. At least the conversation was suitable for broadcast. After five years, I left radio and everything that preceded it behind. I was off to work in the real world.

Ever since I was a kid, I've had an attachment to creating or doing things with my voice, and an attachment to broadcasting and media. Even though the last 18 months have been spent putting together RDB Media, this business is really the result of everything that I've done since I was 10 years old. There's a reason why I haven't forgotten about KRUD Radio or doing play-by-play for those neighborhood ballgames or my time in radio. There's even a reason why I haven't forgotten about those who supported me during my radio years. This stuff is still in my blood and I have some unfinished business to take care of. It may have taken a while, but now's the time to finish what I started years ago.
